I wrote Mail Processor because I was frustrated by the fact that I had too much really interesting email to read and not enough time to read it. I subscribe to the New List list, and so I get a half a dozen or so messages a day about new listserve lists which have been recently formed. Most of these go in the trash, but often enough one of them proves irresistible. What I usually do is set my subscription to digest and let the mail messages accumulate. When I want to read the accumulated mail from such a list, I import the messages into Mail Processor. This initial step of importing the messages can be time consuming, so I start an import and go to lunch or in the case of a really large mailbox, I let it run over night.
Find with Context, Mark, Annotate, Extract to End Notes
Once the messages are loaded, Mail Processor can be used to generate a list of messages which contain a given text string. The list is actually a list of the entire lines in which the search string was found. Looking at the hit list, you can see some of the context of the hit. If you think a hit is worth looking at, you can click on it and jump to that message where the found text will be identified. Once in a specific message, you can mark the message for a quick return, you can create a note which stays with that message, you can select some text and move it to a common End Notes section, or you can move on to other hits.
Sort Messages
Mail messages can be sorted by sender, subject or date.
Browse with a Better Interface
You may want to just browse mail messages using the clean and elegant interface provided by Mail Processor. You can change the font and size of the text in which your messages are displayed.
Export to Database
Mail Processor has a variety of export formats including standard tab delimited database files. When you send in the 24.00 shareware fee you will receive a version of Mail Processor with all export features enabled and a Filemaker Pro template with all necessary fields defined. The template includes several layouts and some automated scripts; it may be fully modified to meet your own needs. Why move processed mail into Filemaker? With really large collections of mail messages, finding will be faster in Filemaker Pro. Filemaker Pro gives you great control over how data output is formatted, and with Filemaker Pro you can create a multi-user database which can be shared over a network by several to many simultaneous users.
Database Fields
When exporting messages to a database, you should create the following fields in your database to hold the exported data.
